The command-line - feared by beginners, loved by advanced users, it's a rudimentary user interface that's probably least fun and engaging to use.

lolcat is a fun, tiny CLI utility for Linux, BSD and macOS. What it does is it adds a bit of colors to the whole CLI experience, in the sense that it adds random rainbow-like color of text in the Linux Terminal.

Having lolcat installed on its own can slightly improve or transform your experience with the Terminal (especially if you're an aesthetically driven person), but the real beauty of the utility is when used in conjuncture with other similar fun tools such as cowsay (and other ASCII-based Terminal utilities).

lolcat is not a new utility, hence, there's a very good chance that its available in the repository of various popular Linux distributions. You can install lolcat via apt on most Debian-based distros by typing "sudo apt install lolcat."

It can also be installed via snap (sudo snap install lolcat), or via Homebrew (brew install lolcat) for both Linux and macOS environments.

Once installed, you can check out all the available options by using the help command ("lolcat -h" or "lolcat --help"). lolcat an also be used to display codes of a script file (lolcat test.sh).

lolcat is all about having a bit of fun while using the Terminal, hence, if you didn't know it existed up to this point, well, you haven't missed out on a lot.
