Get more control over how you play media on Ubuntu 23.04 (and onward) with the help of Audio Panel to Quick Settings, a small GNOME Shell extension that adds a dedicated audio panel. #Audio Control #Audio Panel #GNOME Shell Extension #Audio #Control #Panel
Almost all of us can agree that the new GNOME 44 Quick Settings panel is modern-looking, very functional, and all in all, a good addition to the GNOME ecosystem.
Even though the default Quick Settings panel has audio controls, that doesn't mean that they can't be improved, right? Enter Quick Settings Audio Panel, a nifty GNOME Shell extension that does exactly what it says on the tin - it adds a new audio section in the Quick Settings menu.
Not only that, but the extension also moves the audio-related controls in the new panel, and the end result, we have to say, is quite awesome.
In addition to creating a new audio panel in the Quick Settings menu and moving the audio-related controls there, the extension is also able to display per-app volume controls. This allows you to individually manage each audio source/stream independently from the OS' master volume control).
What's really impressive about this little extension is that it's also quite customizable. For instance, you can thoroughly control the layout of various components of the audio panel. You're also provided with the option of moving the audio panel at the top, bottom, left, or right of the Quick Settings menu.
There's a lot you can do with this little extension. You can move the master volume sliders to the new panel as well, you can create a somewhat interesting app volume mixer, and reorder everything as you please.
To make sure that the changes take effect, it's advisable that you enable and disable the extension. Last but not least, it's worth noting that there are a few limitations. For example, and as per the developer's GitHub page, "the layout will be completely broken if you merge the sound panel in the main one with an horizontal layout (everything works correctly but it looks terrible)." More details can be found on the official GitHub page.
The extension is also incompatible with some extensions that alter this Quick menu, and especially with Quick Settings Tweaker (as it's heavily inspired by it).
A very neat little GNOME Shell extension that is bound to make your experience with GNOME 44 a little bit better, especially if you want more control over how you play music and media.
