Swiftly convert images into ASCII art directly in the Terminal with the help of this CLI application #Image to ASCII #ASCII Image Converter #ASCII Converter #ASCII #Image #Converter
Do you like using the command-line/Terminal a lot? Are you a fan of ASCII art? If the answer for both those questions is Yes, then you might enjoy ascii-image-converter.
As its name clearly states, ascii-image-converter is a simple CLI tool that allows you to transform images into ASCII art directly in the Terminal. The app is fully written in Go and it prints out the ASCII version of any image supplied to it.
Needless to say, it works better with images that display clear shapes with well-defined edges, so don't expect it to be of much use when it comes to printing out your face, or your avatar, for instance.
For starters, the app supports the following input formats: JPEG, JPG, PNG, BMP, WEBP, TIFF, and TIF. Once installed, you simply have to provide the path of the image you want to convert. The command for this is as follows: "ascii-image-converter [path_to_your_image]" Alternatively, you can convert images directly from the web by providing the app the URL of the image (ascii-image-converter [URL_of_said_image])
The app also has a Braille mode which allows you to print out images to Braille patterns instead of the classic ASCII. Other noteworthy features include --dither (applies dithering to images to make the Braille art more visible), --color (displays the ASCII art with the image's original colors), --width and --height (pretty self-explanatory), as well as --negative and --grayscale, among many others.
For a complete list of features, either use the app's help function (ascii-image-converter -h) or check out the official GitHub repo.
ascii-image-converter is a tiny and fun CLI app that works exactly as intended. It's easy to use, easy to install, and it provides a surprising amount of output options.
