WebReady For Linux

When it comes to converting video/image files from one format to another, you can pretty much find everything you need online. However, in specific cases, having a desktop app can yield better (and faster) results.

WebReady is a simple, free, open-source, Linux-only application that makes it easy for anyone to convert video files to looped WebP animation files in mere seconds.

There's really nothing particularly impressive about this application. That said, there's also nothing wrong with it, as it works as intended. If you've ever used a convertor app, then you won't find any challenges working with WebReady.

The way it works is as follows: simply upload the video file (can be done using the designated dialog within the app, or by simply dragging and dropping the specific file onto the Source field), select the resolution, the framerate value, and that's about it. In terms of resolutions, the app provides options ranging from 1280x720 all the way up to 3840x2160. The framerate values range from 10 to 60.

Optionally, you can enable or disable various features such as VSync, Lossless, or Looped.

The fact that this app is so simplistic means that users looking for an all-in-one video-converting solution won't be very interested. Even though the app uses FFmpeg (probably the best multimedia framework for decoding, encoding, transcoding, muxing, demuxing, and processing video and audio files out there), its use case is very niche.

This is by no means a problem since the developer clearly states that this app was "made primarily for easily creating live wallpapers for the Steam Deck," and it has "no extra bells and whistles."
