Roll dices or simply opt to generate random numbers up to one-hundred with the help of this nifty little app #Roll Dice #Number Generator #Random Number #Roll #Dice #Die
Dice are small, throwable objects with marked sides that can rest in multiple positions and are usually used for generating random values. This makes dice the perfect solution for tabletop games, board games, role-playing games, some guessing games, and games of chance, usually found in casinos.
Rolling a die means throwing it in the air and waiting until it lands and settles down on one of its faces, however, if you want to this on a Linux computer, you can use Roll-It.
It's a free and open-source small application which allows you to roll a six-sided die. The app is not limited to six-sided dice, as it can also be used to roll one-hundred sided dice.
Since there's no animation involved, you could very well consider Roll-It a random number generator.
If you're looking for a way to generate random numbers, it's probably no the best option out there, since it can only generate numbers up to one hundred. However, other than that, the app is pretty great.
It has a GTK4 GUI, it has a history pane on the left side of the GUI, and all results are remembered until you either close the app or manually clear them. Another great feature is the fact that you can copy the results to the clipboard with just one click.
The app also comes with support for keyboard shortcuts, which should make the whole process a lot faster, should you need it. Press CTRL+R to roll the dice, CTRL+H to toggle the history pane, CTRL+L to clear the history section, and CTRL+Z to undo the clear.
Roll-It is a nice little app if you're looking for a Linux-only solution for rolling a die, or for generating random numbers up to one hundred. Of course, there are online alternatives that can do a far better job, but they're arguably not as good looking as this app, and not nearly as easily accessible.
What's new in Roll-It 3.4.0:
- Roll results are now listed in reverse chronological order
- Auto-scrolling behavior of the results list has been improved
- The entire row is now clickable to copy its roll result, rather than needing to click the smaller copy button
- Dice settings presets now use radio buttons to give a clearer indicator of the currently-selected preset
