A punch clock is timekeeping device used to record data about when employees arrive at and leave work. Traditionally, a punch clock is a very good tool that helps employers determine how much each employee should receive as payment.

Punchclock is an open-source, Linux-only tiny application that allows you to track the time spend on tasks. In short, it's a small task/time tracker for Linux that has nothing to do with the traditional punch clock, except the time tracking part.

Punchclock is definitely designed with a more frugal approach in mind. Don't expect this app to be as complex or as competent as most other advanced time tracking software.

Punchclock is a fair example of a good WYSIWYG app. You get a compact GUI that allows you to start tracking various tasks, as well as pause the time tracking process, and that's about it.

Once tasks are stopped (or pause), they can either be resumed, or can be deleted. The GUI can be expanded as much as you want, but it's also very neat and tidy-looking if you opt to keep it the compact version.

The fact that you can transform the GUI into a simple floating menu works wonders, as the app doesn't get in your way, however, we have to point out that an "Always on top" feature would have also been quite handy. Also, some customization options will for sure do wonders for the app, if the developer ever intends to add them.

Even though Punchclock was not designed to satisfy more complex time tracking needs of some users, it should be a perfect fit for most users who simply want an app for tracking their day-to-day tasks.
