Modern CSV is a highly customizable, cross-platform CSV editor and viewer for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
There are many good CSV editors out there, but few manage to encapsulate as many features as Modern CSV.
For starters, the app has a powerful tabbed GUI that's been specifically designed to compensate for the potential deficiencies of most spreadsheet apps. You can edit and view CSV files, analyze data, modify config files, maintain lists, and check files, everything without having to leave Modern CSV's GUI.
The app has also been specifically designed to handle large CSV files. This is mostly thanks to its read-only mode that allows you to load bulky CSV files quickly and with a minimum system load.
Another great aspect of Modern CSV is the fact that most commands have keyboard shortcuts. If, however, you find one that doesn't have a defined shortcut, you can easily create it. This allows you to save time when dealing with repetitive actions.
The Find/Replace feature is also one of the highlights. You can use filters with powerful syntax, and you can also manually hide rows and columns.
Modern CSV also supports multiple types of delimiters (TSV, PSV, TAB, etc.), multiple character encodings (UTF-9, UTF-16, ISO 8859, CJK, etc.), drag and drop actions, auto-refresh for externally edited files, and it's even RFC 4180 compliant.
Fuzzy search for all commands and files, drag and drop groups of cells, rows, or columns, the ability to save filtering and sorting results into separate files, date/time conversion, text case conversion, and the ability to duplicate, rename and delete files within the app.
Up until this point, it's pretty clear that Modern CSV has what it takes to be your go-to CSV editor/viewer. However, the best aspect of the app is definitely its customization options.
Modern CSV was designed to offer you the utmost freedom when it comes to customization. You can choose between two default themes, change the cell sizes, as well as the shades of every row or column, just to name a few.
Taking everything into account, Modern CSV is definitely a good option to have for everyone looking for a CSV editor/viewer. It packs a ton of useful features, as well as all the customization options one might need.
