Neat little Linux application that allows you to create and manage .AppImage files #AppImage Creator #Manage AppImages #AppImage Library #AppImage #Create #AppRun
AppImage is a relatively new packaging format and the whole point of this format is to provide users with a click-to-run way of running Linux apps on practically any distribution. Of course, AppImage as a format is not entirely perfect, and one of the main drawbacks is the lack of integration with most distribution desktop environments.
Immagini is a small and pretty useful Linux application that can enhance the way you interact with AppImages. To be more precise, it's a library and creation tool for .AppImage files (meaning it provides an easy way to manage and even create AppImages on your system) and it can be installed on almost all Linux distros directly from Flathub.
At its core, Immagini is a fairly easy-to-use application, especially if you're at least a bit familiar with the AppImage format. Upon first starting the application, you're greeted by the app's library section. From this Library section, you can manage all previously added (or previously installed) AppImage files.
You can rename files, set files as executable, extract AppImages to a selected location, as well as delete AppImages from your system. If you want to create new AppImage entries, simply click the "+" button in the upper left corner of the GUI.
You're provided with various options such as deleting the .AppDir after the build has finished, including custom AppRun, as well as a Folder mode. Please note that with the app default .AppRun, you can only execute shell scripts.
From the Advanced section, you can access the Folder Mode (which is currently in beta), and a Custom AppRun mode. By enabling the Custom AppRun mode, you can package in the application your own custom-made AppRun file. The developer of the app recommends that you always use this option in conjunction with the Folder mode.
The Folder mode allows you to package folders inside an AppImage. To do this, you have to select the main app executable as the app executable.
Immagini is a nicely designed application that will come in handy to users who want a quick and simple way of creating and managing AppImage files. Oh, and in case you're wondering, "Immagini," means "Images" in Italian.
More information and a few very useful guides are available on the app's GitHub repository, and we definitely recommend you check them out before attempting any of the more advanced operations.
