Get Git Forges notifications directly on your Linux desktop by relying on this nifty and tiny app #Git Forges Notification #Gitea Notifier #Forgejo Notification #Git #Forges #Notification
Git forges (as those supported by GitLab and GitHub) is a new concept, one that explores a new type of applications. The main benefit of Git forges is that the GFA (git forge app) doesn't necessarily need to be deployed in other environments, since the forge itself acts as the environment.
Git forges offer a lot of interesting things such as repository hosting with the addition of related features like pull requests, wikis, issue trackers, continuous integration, static website hosting, and a lot more.
Forge Sparks is the creation of Rafael Mardojai CM, a developer who's other projects are nothing short of interesting and high-quality (the creator of apps such as Blanket, Share Preview, and Webfont Kit Generator).
Forges Sparks is a stylish, practical, and very lightweight app that brings git forges notifications to your Linux (but mostly GNOME) desktop.
As far as Git-related notification apps, Forges Sparks is nothing out of the ordinary in terms of functionality. The app boasts a modern and compact Libadwaita GUI. It comes with support for any number of accounts. As far as the supported Git repository hosting websites, Forges Sparks works with GitHub, Gitea, and Forgejo.
There's nothing really complicated about Forges Sparks, and if you want to add an account, you simply have to ensure that you have a valid account (for GitHub, Gitea, and Forgejo).
For example, if you want to add a GitHub account, you simply have to go to Settings -> Developer Settings -> Personal access tokens, and generate a GitHub API which you'll have to enter in the app.
Once this is done, the app's GUI will display any new Git forge-related notification.
Forges Sparks is a great little app for those who deal with Git forges. It's super easy to use, it looks great, and it works like a charm.
Sure, the app could be better by offering a bit more in terms of integration (maybe a way to customize how and where the notifications are displayed), but all in all, if you want a quick way to check Git forges notifications, Forges Spark is a solid option (and possible the only one, for Linux).
