Flatsweep For Linux

I'm a big fan of Flatpak apps mostly because I like the idea of apps that can run across a wide range of Linux distributions. There are numerous advantages of using Flatpak apps, but have you ever wondered how many junk files remain on your system after you uninstall them?

The short answer is - not many. Clearly, uninstall a couple of Flatpak apps here and there won't have a great impact, but if/when we're dealing with hundreds of Flatpak apps, the leftover files can quickly add up.

That's exactly why Flatsweep was created. It's a free and open-source application written in Python that allows you to effortlessly get rid of residue/leftover files from uninstalled Flatpak apps.

The thing I like most about this app is that it's designed to that even users who don't know what a "custom install path" is. You just install and open the app, press the "Clean" button, and that's it. No fancy menus, no extra options, no nothing.

The app just looks in the default Flatpak install directory (this also includes apps installed from Flathub, in case you're wondering). You're provided with a quick overview of the leftover data amount, and the app's folders that will be cleaned.

Another thing I appreciate about the app is that it uses GTK4 and Libadwaita. Of course, I am a bit biased toward these types of apps since I am an avid GNOME user, but the fact of the matter is that it will get the job done regardless of the distribution and the desktop environment.

Flatsweep is not an impressive app, but it does work like a charm, and it's remarkably easy to use. I have been using Flatpak and Flathub apps for a very long time, and I used to delete leftover files manually, but now, I can do it with a simple mouse click.
