API testing is the process of sending requests to an API and viewing or monitoring the responses. The main goal of API testing is to ensure the functionality, performance, and general reliability of an API in a wide range of expected and unexpected situations.

There are a lot of very competent API testing and development apps out there, ranging from simple ones that can be used by pretty much everyone, to those mostly dedicated to advanced testers.

Escambo is one such application that's definitely not one of advanced ones.

Escambo is a straightforward, modern, and open-source app for HTTP-based API testing. Since its designed with Libadwaita, it's mostly made for GNOME desktop environments, but you can install it on pretty much any Flatpak-enabled Linux distribution.

The name Escambo is in Portuguese, and it means exchange or barter. It's a cool name, mainly chosen by the app's Brazilian developer who wants to give "more meaning to the culture and history of Brazil" through his apps.

To get started with Escambo, simply paste the API's URL in the designated section, choose the HTTP request method (GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, DELETE), and hit the Send Request button.

What's neat about this tiny app is that it also allows you to view the response in detail. Not only that, but you can also add the body for the API testing sessions, as well as create custom cookies and headers. There's also an Authorization tab that allows you to choose between two API key types, as well as add custom keys and values.

As mentioned before, Escambo is not the most advanced or complex API testing tool out there. However, if your API testing doesn't require more than the basics, Escambo is a fabulous solution.
