Elephicon For Linux

Elephicon is a straightforward and small tool that allows you to generate Apple ICNS and Microsoft ICO files from PNGs.

Here's what you need to know about Elephicon: it's an Electron-based application, it's free, open-source, and it works on all major platforms such as Windows, macOS, and Linux.

The app is basically a GUI wrapper for png2icons, a Node.js module that provides an API and a command-line interface. What's important to note about png2icons is that the ideal input is a 24-bit PNG with alpha channel (RGBA) with 1024x1024 pixels. Still, all other PNG formats and dimensions should also work without problems.

The best thing about Elephicon is how easy it is to use. You just select one of the two conversion modes (ICO or ICNS), drag and drop a PNG on the app's GUI, and that's it, the app takes care of everything else.

Right click the app's GUI and you can access various settings. For instance, you can choose between three quality modes: Low, Medium, and High.

The app also allows you to choose the destination for your ICOs and ICNS' - either the desktop, or the same folder as the input file, as well as select two ICO modes - use the BMP format for smaller icon sizes, and use PNG for each icon in the created ICO file.

Elephicon is a nice little app that works exactly as it should. Sure, you can everything this app does with the help of most advanced image or graphics editors, but Elephicon is definitely more convenient and faster.

If you're not particularly sold on Electron-based apps, we totally understand, but the issues usually associated with them are not at all present in Elephicon, as the resource consumption is really low and the GUI is a lot snappier than most apps of this type.
