Share files between your devices safely and with ease with the help of Dragit, a nice free and open-source app. #FIle Sharing #Share File #Send File #File #Sharing #Sender
Here's an interesting question: what's the safest way to send a file from your computer to another computer or device in your home?
There are a plethora of ways one can do this: you can use a flash drive or any external storage units (not the most convenient), you can email said file (only works with small files), or you can send them via a file sharing website (definitely not the most secure option), or you could use any one of the multitudes of cloud services (again, not the privacy-friendly, despite the numerous security features most of them have).
Sure, there are still some other much more secure options, but they're mostly reserved for power users such as network sharing tools (which are usually difficult to set up), and ssh (also, not the most user-friendly option).
The answer might just come in the form of a nice, user-friendly, highly privacy-oriented little app called Dragit.
What is Dragit? It's an intuitive file-sharing app that allows you to send files from one computer to another with no effort while ensuring your files never leave the privacy of your home.
The main advantage of Dragit is that it's dead-easy to use. There's no need to sign-up, no need to deal with complex configurations, or look up IP addresses on target devices.
Here's how it works: you install the app on both computers/devices (it's best if you take a look at the installation instructions), run the app on both computers, drag and drop a file on the GUI, and accept the file on the other end, and that's pretty much it.
The next big advantage is the overall security Dragit provides. Because there is no central server, and because Dragit is based on a p2p technology (more to the point, it uses the mDNS protocol), the host discovery process is done locally on your home's network.
Data is, of course, encrypted during the transfer (via the NOISE protocol framework), and if you're still not convinced, the source code is available for the public on GitHub, so you can check it out for yourself.
Dragit is a privacy-oriented file-sharing tool that uses no external servers and encrypts data during transfers. It's easy-to-use, requires no configuration, and it even automatically checks the firewall config on most Linux distros.
A great, practical solution for sharing files between devices in the same network.
