Impressive tool that allows you to create fully customized Live ISO images for Ubuntu and Debian distros. #Custom Ubuntu ISO #Ubuntu ISO Creator #Create ISO #Ubuntu #Debian #ISO
As a typical Ubuntu user, I've never felt the need to create a custom Ubuntu ISO. However, that's not to say that all users have the same needs as me.
For instance, there are users who might want to switch things up a bit and use a different kernel, install some extra packages, pre-populate an ISO with different repositories, or just shrink the damn thing as much as possible. If you're not like me, then you should definitely check out Cubic.
We're well aware that Cubic is a pretty underwhelming, hum-drum, generic, call-it-whatever-you-want name. However, the truth of the matter is that Cubic is not at all a generic app.
In fact, Cubic stands for "Custom Ubuntu ISO Creator. Pretty self-explanatory, right? According to the app's GitHub repo, it's a "GUI wizard to create customized Live ISO Image for Ubuntu and Debian-based distributions."
The short answer is -no, not really, but it's quite advisable that you take at least a few minutes and check out the app's comprehensive reference guide.
The installation is also quite straightforward, and it does involve a bit of command-line action, but fear not, there's nothing you can't copy paste. Just make sure to not skip the manually addition of the repository key found in the Install Cubic section.
What's really cool about Cubic, apart from its phenomenal features (one of which is that it provides various levels of compression, and another is the terminal page that gives you root access to a virtual environment) is the fact that most of the wizard is pretty easy-to-understand.
You're presented with numerous options in regards to how and what you want to add or remove from your custom ISO, but most of it comes in a relatable and easy-to-understand form/steps.
Cubic is for sure one of the most exciting apps I've seen in the last few months, and it's for good reason. We rarely get this level of control when it comes to creating ISOs for our systems, but with Cubic, things get really easy, and that's also quite amazing.
To conclude, it you want to create nice, perfectly-tailored Ubuntu/Debian live USBs/ISOs, then don't hesitate to give this nifty tool a chance to prove its worth (and maybe consider donating to the project, and it's one of the better ones out there).
