Countdown For Linux

Countdown timers are a somewhat important part of our daily lives even though we don't usually think about them a lot. Countdown timers are used when working out, cooking food, launching shuttles in space, starting races, tracking sporting events, and even determining how much time until an important event, and the list goes on and on.

However, countdown timers have other uses. For example, they are very good at giving any situation a sense of urgency. Various studies have also shown that countdown timers are also good when it comes to boosting one's motivation.

If you want to try adding countdown timers to your daily routine, and you're currently running Linux on your computer, you should check out Countdown.

As its generic name clearly states, Countdown can be used to calculate the time until something (a task, event, whatever) will be complete, or will happen at some point in time.

The application can also tell you how much time has passed since a certain event happened or a certain task was completed. You can toggle between these two modes from the upper part of the GUI. There, you'll see two tabs: Upcoming and Past. That's pretty much about it.

Now, Countdown is an app that could do with a few extra features. Firstly, it doesn't provide much in the way of tracking time efficiently, as it only displays the days, and not hours, minutes, and seconds.

It doesn't have any sort of configuration options: no GUI themes, no features to tweak its behavior, no alarm features, etc.

Countdown may just be a simple, no-frills countdown timer app, but at least it looks nice. As you can imagine, it's also very easy to use. If you need to track the days until a certain event, Countdown is great. If you need a bit more flexibility, then the countdown timer on your phone will probably be better.
