Whether we perceive it as such or not, task automation is a big part of our modern lives. We have robots in assembly lines to build things, we have cars that help us drive them more efficiently and safely, and programmable thermostats in our houses, just to name a few.
Task automation is all about reducing (or even eliminating, in some cases) effort. That's exactly why automation software exists. The most basic example of automation software is the good ol' "auto-clicker" app.
Clicker is one such application (basically an auto-clicker app) that can turn repeatable tasks and user inputs into automated actions. Clicker is a free and open-source application built specifically for Linux.
Right off the bat, what's important to note here is that the app works on both Wayland and X11. That's obviously a great thing for most Linux users.
Another interesting aspect regarding how Clicker works is that the app basically simulates a remote desktop session to perform automated tasks. This is also why each time you want to automate a task, you'll need to grant this permission (which, in turn, can become a bit tedious, I must admit).
There's another small issue with this app. Because of the Global Shortcut limitations, there is no way to stop the animation after it has started (before the set duration has ended). It's probably an issue that will be fixed.
Small functionality niggles aside, Clicker is a very good little app for what it is. The GUI is modern and very user-friendly and looks especially good on GNOME desktops.
The fact that this app offers keyboard input automation options is also a very good thing since not all "auto clicker" apps offer this level of flexibility.
Last but not least, there's a Pattern section. This allows you to fully simulate and automate a wide range of key presses by manually typing them in the designated "box."
