If you're keen on having a new beautiful wallpaper on your computer's desktop each day, then you've probably heard about Bing, the web search engine owned and operated by Microsoft.
What makes Bing a bit different is the fact that it features on its homepage a lot of beautiful images from around the world.
Enter BingWall, a nice open-source utility for Linux that brings the Bing Wallpaper of the Day directly to your desktop.
The short answer is yes, especially if you happen to like the wallpapers displayed on the Bing homepage daily.
The app doesn't just allow you to browse a couple of the latest Bing wallpapers, but it also allows you to download said wallpapers to a "browsable" location on your computer. What's more, all downloaded wallpapers are also accessible from within the app.
There are other nifty little features such as a dark theme, an option that displays relevant information (the Info Watermark, to be more precise) on the wallpaper, and an option to automatically set the wallpaper of the day as you log into your system.
Another noteworthy advantage is the fact that the app allows you to choose one of ten countries. Hence, you can get the relevant wallpaper of the day based on your location (as supported by the official Bing API).
According to the app's GitHub repository, BingWall is "Little utility to browse/download/setting Bing's wallpaper of the day to GNOME desktop." On closer inspection, the app uses GNOME desktop's gsettings component (alongside other technologies such as Qt GUI Framework, Qt, C++ 11, JSON, and the peapix.com API).
It's somewhat of a shame, then, that BingWall doesn't follow GNOME's Human Interface Guidelines, because it would have been sublime. Then there's also the small manner of BingWall displaying a few hints/links to some other apps from the same developer (which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it does take away a bit from the app's clean look).
BingWall is a stylish little application that should be just what Bing wallpapers fans want. It may not be "the perfect GNOME app," but it's definitely a good app nonetheless.
