An Open Source, smart and lightweight text editor for programmers and Java developers. #Text editor #Programmer's editor #Image viewer #Programmer #Text #Editor
neoeedit is an open source, cross-platform, simple, smart, quick, and light graphical application implemented in Java and tailored specifically for programmers who are looking for a very basic text editor to write code for their Java applications. The software can also act as an image viewer, designed to replace the classic Notepad app on Windows systems.
Originally designed as a programmer’s editor, neoeedit’s key features include basic functions for text editing, small memory footprint, Unicode support, IME-Aware, shortcut keys, cursor keys, line numbers, as well as support for all mainstream operating systems and hardware architectures.
Unfortunately, its graphical user interface (GUI), which is also written in the Java programming language, meaning that the software will look and act the same on all supported platforms, is very basic. It features no toolbar or menus, nor a right-click context menu.
All you can do in the application is to write code and save the files by left-clicking anywhere on the status bar, which includes information about the current line, the total number of words and how many undo operations have been created at the moment.
A quick look under the hood of neoeedit will show us that the application is written entirely in the Java programming language, which means that it’s a platform-independent application that supports all the operating systems where the Java runtime environment is available, including GNU/Linux, BSD, Solaris, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X.
For users’ convenience, it is available for download as a pre-built binary package in the JAR file format, which requires no configuration or installation. To use the application, simply download the JAR file, save it somewhere on your computer and double-click it. It has been successfully tested on both 32-bit and 64-bit computers.
What's new in neoeedit R221:
- This version adds Input Method support.
- It supports on-the-spot pre-editing of CJK IME on Windows and Linux.
- The IME support is not perfect in Java Swing currently, but Neoeedit does the same as Swing JTextComponent.
- There are also some small enhancements.
