Take your programming and coding to the next level with the help of Notepadqq, a Linux alternative for the famous Notepad++. #Notepad++ Alternative #Text Editor #Code Editor #Notepad++ #Coding #Programming
Notepad++ is one of the most popular Windows apps, especially in the programming community. It's very powerful, it's extendable via plugins, it's extremely lightweight, and it has support for a plethora of programming languages.
What if you want the same experience on Linux? Well, you could very well install Notepad++ on most Linux distributions. However, on Linux, Notepad++ runs on top of Wine.
While it works, it's not a perfect solution. The scaling is off, the native look and feel (while running on Linux) is pretty much inexistent.
The other option, and an arguably better one, is to install Notepadqq.
In short, Notepadqq is the Notepad++ alternative for Linux. The biggest difference between the two is that Notepadqq is a native Linux app built using Qt technology.
It works fantastically on some of the most popular Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Arch Linux, OpenSUSE, Fedora, just to name a few), the UI fonts look exactly as they should, and it's also very lightweight.
It may seem perfect, but Notepadqq does have one small drawback, namely it doesn't have all the features of Notepad++.
We talked about the differences between Notepad++ and Notepadqq. Even though the look is pretty much identical between the two, there are some menus missing from Notepadqq. These include Tools, Macro, and Plugins.
Other than that, there are pretty much all the features you might expect from a decent text editor. Color schemes, code folding, plugin support (even though it's a bit limited), syntax highlighting for over one hundred programming languages, everything is here.
Last but not least, Notepadqq is one of the few text editors to provide support for mathematical formulas. For example, you can comment in your favorite programming language, and use LaTeX notations to augment your comment with mathematical formulas.
Notepadqq manages to retain most of what made Notepad++ such a great app, without major compromises.
It's a powerful text/source code editor that provides a native Linux experience to all those who want a Notepad++ alternative.
