Abricotine For Linux

Abricotine is a modern-looking and open-source Markdown editor for the masses. It's not the best, nor the worst Markdown editor out there and its defining characteristic is its inline preview feature (meaning you preview the documents directly in the text editor and not in a side panel).

The app works on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and it's based on modern web technologies such as Electron, Node.js, CSS3, and HTML5.

With the help of Abricotine, you can edit texts in Markdown (or GFM). One of the best features is the fact that you can also export documents in HTML using a series of templates. In fact, you can use any other format supported by Pandoc. These include PDF, DOCX, ODT, and so forth).

The app provides users with various themes to display their documents, and all text elements (including headers, math embedded videos, to-do lists, and images) can be previewed in real-time as you type.

Other noteworthy features include a search and replace option, Ligatures support, a distraction-free full-screen mode and code syntax highlighting.

The only real downside of Abricotine is the Preferences section. In short, the app doesn't have a GUI section but uses a config.json file to get things done.

Most of the configuration entries found within the config.json are handled by menus. This means that you don't need to edit a file to change them. It also means that there is no menu for editing the following options: autopreview-security, autopreview-domains, highlight-modes, lang, preview-template, and tasks.

Abricotine provides a quick and easy way to write complex web documents using Markdown. As mentioned at the start of the review, it won't impress you in any particular way. However, that doesn't mean that it's not capable.

If you just need a simple Markdown editor and you're ok with the atypical Preferences section, then Abricotine might be right for you.
