LightMd_Editor For Linux

Markdown editors are one of the essentials for most web content writers, and, thankfully, there's no shortage of them out there. From uber-lightweight, minimalist to feature-packed stylish, and highly customizable, there are lots of Markdown editors out there for all types of users.

LightMD_Editor is one such app, a free and open-source Markdown editor for Linux and Windows. Even though it's not the most modern, or the best-equipped app of this sort out there, here are some reason why you might want to consider giving it a try.

Let's start with what could be better. The first thing that might come across as a bit of a letdown is the app's GUI. It's not exactly what one might call modern, even though it's not uber-simplistic and barebones as something you might find in a simple text editor.

The second, and probably the biggest drawback of LightMD_Editor is the fact that it doesn't have a live preview feature. With that out of the way, there's a lot to like about the app as well.

It may not be as stylish as some of its more modern counterparts, but LightMD_Editor is remarkably lightweight (especially when compared to Electron-based Markdown editors).

As mentioned before, the GUI won't win any beauty prizes anytime soon, but it does have a sort of refreshingly simple functionality, with a useful side panel that allows you to instantly access the app's features.

It can also perform Markdown formatting via keyboard shortcuts, has syntax highlighting, multi-tab support (great for working on multiple projects at once), as well as Focus and Full Screen modes for distraction-free typing and editing.

LightMD_Editor is not a new project, as it's been around for a couple of years, and even though it hasn't received updates for half a decade, it should still work without problems on most Linux distributions.

Clearly, it won't be everybody's cup of tea, but if a distraction-free, super-simplistic and lightweight Markdown editor is what you're after (and you don't mind the lack of live preview), then LightMD_Editor is not a bad choice.
