g:Noblin For Linux

g:Noblin is an open source distribution of Linux derived from the GoblinX operating system and built around the GNOME desktop environment. It is a desktop-oriented OS that can be used on netbook or desktop computers.

The g:Noblin operating system is distributed as a dual-arch Live CD ISO image that runs on 32-bit and 64-bit computers. To create a bootable medium, you must write the ISO image on a CD disc or a USB flash drive of 1GB or higher capacity.

From the Live CD boot menu, users can choose between running the live system with the GNOME desktop environment (suitable for desktop PCs) or with the netbook interface (suitable for netbook computers). It is possible to run the live environment by copying the contents of the ISO image to RAM, in text mode or a with a fresh session (persistent mode is used by default on the main sessions).

While the Netbook Interface borrows Ubuntu Netbook Remix’s layout, GNOME Classic uses a two-panel layout, where the top panel will help users launch pre-installed applications and access the system tray area. The bottom panel can be used to interact with running programs, as well as to cycle between virtual workspaces.

g:Noblin is a normal Linux kernel-based operating system. There’s nothing extraordinary about it and comes with a web browser (Mozilla Firefox), email client (Mozilla Thunderbird), instant messenger (Pidgin), file sharing client (Vuze), network scanner (Zenmap), file transfer client (gFTP), news reader (Liferea), word processor (AbiWord), spreadsheet editor (Gnumeric), audio player (Audacious and Rhythmbox), webcam viewer (Cheese), image editor (GIMP), vector editor (Inkscape) and Internet phone (Ekiga).
