TurnKey osCommerce Live CD For Linux

TurnKey osCommerce Live CD is an open source and freely distributed software appliance that provides users with an easy-to-use and powerful operating system based on the Debian GNU/Linux distribution and designed for deploying dedicated osCommerce servers.

osCommerce is an open source and web-based application that allows anyone to deploy a full featured online shopping store in minutes. The appliance comes with all the upstream osCommerce configurations, which are installed by default in /var/www/oscommerce.

Key features include support for secure connections using the latest SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technologies, a Postfix mail transfer agent for sending emails to users, phpMyAdmin for managing MySQL databases, as well as Webmin modules for configuring MySQL, PHP, Apache and Postfix.

This TurnKey appliance is distributed as Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms (64-bit/amd64 and 32-bit/i386), which can be written to USB thumb drives using the Disks or UNetbootin apps, or burned onto CD discs using any CD/DVD burning software.

In addition to the ISO images, the project is also distributed as ready-to-use virtual images in the Xen, OpenStack, OVF, OpenVZ and OpenNode formats, straight from the project's homepage (see the link above).

You can easily install the appliance on any computer using the ISO images. The entire installation process is text-based and requires users to basically partition the disk drive and choose where to install the boot loader.

While the default username of the Webmin, SSH, Postfix and MySQL components is root, the default osCommerce username is admin. After installation, the first boot configuration wizard will kick in, allowing users to set passwords for the system administrator account, the MySQL 'root' account, and the osCommerce 'admin' account.

In order to have a working osCommerce installation, it is also a must to add a valid email address to the osCommerce 'admin' account. At the end of the first boot setup process, you will see the IP addresses and ports of the active services.
