TurnKey Torrent Server Live CD is an open source and freely distributed Live Linux operating system based on the award winning and highly acclaimed Debian GNU/Linux distribution and designed to be used as an appliance for deploying a powerful, stable and reliable file download and sharing server.
Key features include support for secure connections via SSL, support for popular compression algorithms (bz2, zip, rar), Postfix MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) for receiving download completion notifications via email.
It comes with MLDonkey configuration, Samba configurations, AjaXplorer for accessing your files securely from anywhere, and a simple program for easily converting text file endings between DOS and UNIX formats.
While the default username for the Webmin, Samba, Webshell and SSH components is root, the default MLDonkey username is admin and the AjaXplorer's usernames are admin (Local) and root (Samba). It is recommended to used the Torrent Server Handler plugin when using the Mozilla Firefox web browser to administer the server.
The system is distributed as two Live CD ISO images, one of each of the supported hardware platforms (64-bit and 32-bit). They can be written to blank CD discs, or deployed to USB sticks for greater portability.
The boot prompt of the Live CD/USB media allows users to directly install the operating system using the text-mode installer, as well as to use the demo mode for trying out the main functionality of the system, powered by the TurnKey Linux Configuration Console.
The installation process requires users to only partition the disk and install the bootloader. During the first boot configuration process, you can set the root (system administrator) password, set the password for the AjaXplorer local admin account, set a new admin password for MLDonkey, as well as to initialize the hub services.
The TurnKey Torrent Server appliance services can be viewed at the end of the first boot setup process, including their IP addresses and ports. Admins can easily reboot or shutdown the server, as well as to configure the network interfaces from the TurnKey Linux Configuration Console.
