Stratagem For Linux

Stratagem is a honeypot distro based on the Linux Mint distribution, which in turn is based on the the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu. A honeypot is a trap, set to deflect, detect and counteract attempts of unauthorized use. It uses Xfce as its default and only desktop environment.

The distribution is available for download via Softpedia or directly from its official website (see link above) as a single, dual-arch Live DVD ISO image that works well on both 32-bit and 64-bit computers.

Being a Linux Mint/Ubuntu fork, the ISO image of Stratagem includes standard boot options, such as the ability to start the operating system with default boot options or in safe graphics mode (xforcevesa), start the graphical installer directly to permanently install the OS on a local disk, run a memory test, as well as to boot the first disk drive.

At the login screen, the user must choose the “strategem” username from the list and type the “strategem” password (without quotes) to log into the live environment, which is powered by the traditional Xfce desktop environment.

The graphical interface is comprised of a single panel located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where the user can access the main menu, launch applications, interact with running programs or system tray functions.

It includes the a wide range of honeypots that are pre-configured and ready to be used, including Dionaea, Kippo, Glastopf, HoneyD, Amun, labrea, Tinyhoneypot, Thug and Conpot.

In conclusion, Stratagem is a decent operating system whose main goal is to provide users with a honeypot setup based on a two of the most stable and powerful distributions of Linux, Ubuntu and Linux Mint.
