Scientific Linux Live CD For Linux

Scientific Linux Live CD 5 is a special edition of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 operating system designed to be installed and used in scientific laboratories around the world. While this edition is still supported with software updates, we strongly recommend to use the newer, Scientific Linux 6 Live CD version.

The Live edition of Scientific Linux 5 is distributed as Live CDs, Live DVDs and Live Mini CDs for the mainstream hardware platforms (32-bit/i386 and 64-bit/x86_64).

The boot menu of all Scientific Linux Live ISO images has been designed to allow the user to start the live environment with default drivers or in safe graphics mode, as well as to perform a system memory diagnostic test.

While the Live CDs and Live DVDs come with the traditional GNOME 2 (also known as GNOME Classic) desktop environment, which uses a two-panel layout, the Live Mini CD features a minimal IceWM window manager.

The project comes with a great selection of open source application on the Live DVDs, but fewer apps on the Live CDs and Live Mini CDs versions. Among some of the most important ones, we can mention the Mozilla Firefox web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, GIMP image editor, OpenOffice.org office suite, Totem movie player, GParted partition editor, and many more.
