BuluoOS MATE For Linux

BuluoOS MATE is a special edition of the BuluoOS Linux operating system built around the MATE desktop environment. It is designed from the ground up to be used by people from the Chinese Linux community who want an easy-to-use and lightweight distribution of Linux for their old computers.

The MATE edition of BuluoOS is distributed as a single Live DVD ISO image, supporting only the 64-bit (x86_64) architecture. It can be burned to a blank DVD disc or written to a USB thumb drive and used for trying the live environment without installing anything on your computer.

A recovery mode is also provided on the boot prompt, allowing users to rescue a broken operating system. Only the Chinese language is supported at this time, but users can easily add support for additional languages after installation. The boot options can be edited by pressing the Tab key (only for advanced users).

As mentioned, the distribution features the lightweight MATE desktop environment, a clone of the traditional GNOME desktop. It is comprised of two panels, a top one for accessing the main menu and launching applications, a bottom one for interacting with running programs and switching between virtual workspaces.

Default applications include the LibreOffice office suite (Writer, Draw, Impress, Base, Calc), pluma text editor, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, FileZilla file transfer client, Transmission torrent downloader, GIMP image editor, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, VLC Media Player, and Mozilla Firefox web browser.

Summing up, BuluoOS MATE is a lightweight operating system that provides users with a low on resources distribution that features a traditional desktop environment and a minimal set of applications. It can be easily installed on a local disk drive using the graphical installer provided on the desktop.
