Arc-live Linux For Linux

Arc-live Linux is an open source and completely free Linux kernel-based, desktop-oriented operating system derived from the award-winning Debian GNU/Linux distribution and designed for the Brazillian-Portuguese Linux community.

Arc-live Linux is freely available for download and use from Softpedia. It is distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image of approximately 1GB in size, designed to support both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms.

When booting the ISO image from the BIOS of a computer, using either a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive, the user will see a boot menu that includes advanced options, such as the ability to run the live system with normal drivers or in safe graphics mode.

It is also possible to start the installer directly and install the Arc-live Linux operating system on a local drive. There are various installer options on the boot menu, including text-mode and graphical ones. It is also possible to run a memory test.

The default graphical desktop environment of Arc-live Linux is KDE Plasma, which provides a modern, productive and familiar user interface. It also includes the KDE with Openbox, GNOME with Openbox, LXDE and Openbox desktop sessions.

Keep in mind though, that you must use the “linux” password (without quotes) with the predefined arc-live username in order to access any of the aforementioned sessions.

The distribution contains mostly KDE-specific applications, among which we can mention that Konqueror web browser, Gwenview image viewer, Okular document viewer, Kopete instant messenger, Akregator news reader, KMail email client, JuK music player, Dragon Player video player, and Dolphin file manager. The Xfburn CD/DVD burning software is also included.
