KopenVPN For Linux

KopenVPN a free (not open source) software project that tries to simplify the usage of the OpenVPN service under any KDE4 desktop environment, simply by allowing users to open and launch any OpenVPN configuration file (.ovpn).

Please note that the software, which is a shell script written entirely in UNIX Shell (Bash), has been designed especially for the KDE4 desktop environment, not the new KDE Plasma 5. It makes use of the KDialog and Konsole software to allow users to easily launch a new OpenVPN connection using a .ovpn configuration file.

The KopenVPN software can be easily deployed on any GNU/Linux operating system. It is distributed as a binary archive, as well as a XZM archive, allowing users of the Porteus Linux distribution to simply install the script by activating the KopenVPN_1-0.xzm module.

To install KopenVPN on other OSes, simply download the tar archive from the downloads section above, save the file on your Home directory, and extract its contents to the root directory as root (system administrator).

Make sure that the ‘kopenvpn’ file goes in the /usr/local/bin folder, and the ‘KopenVPN.desktop’ file in the /usr/share/applications folder. Don't forget to set the executable permission to the ‘kopenvpn’ file (also applies for Porteus Linux users).

After installation, to use the KopenVPN script, you will have to launch from the Start Menu of your KDE4 desktop environment. You can add a shortcut to your panel for easy access or run the ‘kopenvpn’ command (without quotes) in a terminal emulator.

A KDialog window will open, asking you to select am .opvn file. After selecting the .opvn file, a connection will be automatically created and you will be notified if the OpenVPN connection was successful or not.
