A simple, free and cross-platform application designed as a front-end to the tail command #Tail front-end #Tail interface #Monitor file #Tail #Monitor #Watch
QTail is an open source, multi-platform, standalone and completely free software project that provides users with a GUI (Graphical User Interface) front-end for the powerful tail command-line utility.
QTail is a simple and easy to use application with a very basic interface. The user can only open a file to be monitored. From the Settings dialog, you can set the number of lines to output.
At the moment, the QTail application is distributed as a source archive in the zip format, which needs to be configured and compiled prior to installation. The user must extract the archive on a desired location, open a terminal emulator on the respective directory, execute the “qmake” command to configure the program and then the “make” command to compile it. Run the application with the ./QTail command or install it system wide with the “sudo make install” command.
The program is written in the C++ programming language and uses the Qt5 GUI toolkit for its graphical user interface. It’s a cross-platform software that supports both GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems, running on 32-bit or 64-bit computers. On GNU/Linux, it can be downloaded as a source archive (see installation instructions above).
