A straightforward and no-frills, free and open-source system monitoring application for Linux. #System Monitor #Monitor System #System Resources #System #Monitor #Diagnostics
Mini System Monitor is a free and open-source tool created by Hakan Dündar, who's also the creator of System Monitoring Center, a more comprehensive and a lot more advanced system monitoring tool.
This then shouldn't come as a surprise that Mini System Monitor is actually the "mini version" of System Monitoring Center. What's a bit strange about this fact is that the Mini System Monitor doesn't follow the same design language as its bigger brother app.
Where System Monitoring Center is all business with a sleek and very specialized GUI, Mini System Monitor embraces a more visually pleasing method of displaying information via nice and big gauges and displays.
To be honest, it depends. Mini System Monitor is not the first small app of this sort. It does have some advantages (that come in the form of its very simple nature, nifty GUI, and very low resource consumption of around 40 MBs of RAM), but as with all things "mini," you might be left wanting a bit more.
For example, while the GUI is very nice, the fact that there's no floating or opaque, or even transparent GUI makes the whole app feel a bit cumbersome. This feeling is only made even more apparent if you want to resize the app's GUI, which is not possible (at least not in the version we've tested).
Then there's also the fact that it only allows you to see details regarding the CPU, RAM, disk, and network usage.
Even though it does have its innate limitations, Mini System Monitor is not a bad app. We wouldn't go as far as to say that it's one of the best apps of this sort out there since it lacks a lot in terms of customization. In short, it's a decent, honest little system monitor that does exactly what it says on the tin.
