Monitor your Linux OS with the help of this simple process monitor app that mimics the functionality of Windows 10's Task Manager. #System Monitor #Process Monitor #Task Monitor #Monitor #Process #CPU
When it comes to specialized monitoring tools, let's just say that Linux users are not left behind, as there are a plethora of good alternatives out there. Heck, even the default system monitors of most Linux flavors are usually very good.
But, what if you've just made the switch from Windows to Linux, and you long for a bit of familiarity? Enter LikeTaskManager.
As its name clearly states, LikeTaskManager is a system monitoring application designed to unapologetically mimic the feel and functionality of Windows 10's Task Manager.
It blends simplicity and compactness with a decent overview (via easy-to-understand graphs) of various system performance indicators such as CPU, RAM, Disk I/O with root permission, as well as traffic per network interface.
You're also provided with a comprehensive list of all the currently running processes.
Everything the app displays is collected by using the sysfs or the Linux Kernel API. THe networking-related stats per process are displayed courtesy of nethogs' library.
Another advantage of LikeTaskManager is that it's very lightweight (after all, it's a Qt-based app). LikeTaskManager is also something called a self-contained app. Because it's available in AppImage form, it means that you can instantly run it on almost all Linux flavors without having to worry about installation and fancy dependencies.
Just download the AppImage, provide it with the required permissions, and run/execute it. You can update the app by clicking the toolbar General menu, and selecting "UpdateApp."
In its current form, LikeTaskManager is a decent, little system monitor for Linux. It's not what one might call a comprehensive tool of this sort, and it's definitely not the best system monitor out there.
Be that as it may, it manages to provide a fairly satisfying Task Manager experience, and that's all that matters.
