Encrypt and decrypt files with next to no effort on your part with the help of this tiny utility. #Encrypt File #File Encryptor #Decrypt File #Encryption #Decrypt #Encrypt
There are many reasons why one might want to encrypt his or her files. Encryption makes the files unreadable and unusable (until the password/passphrase is entered), making it a good choice in terms of security.
If you want to encrypt your files, there are numerous good apps for the job. encrypt0r is one such app - a small and unassuming, Electron-based app that allows you to encrypt and decrypt files.
The main benefits of using this app is that it's free, open-source (meaning you can check out the source code and see for yourself if it's safe or not), and cross-platform. Being built with the latest web technologies, the application works on all major OSes out there: Windows, most Linux distributions, and macOS (with support for the latest M1 processors).
The first thing that becomes obvious when you run the application for the first time is the fact that it's designed to be as simple as possible. There is no fancy GUI, no advanced features, and no annoying pop-ups.
You get a simple drag and drop interface (that allows you to load files faster), and two options: Encrypt and Decrypt. Please note that the app does not work with folders.
That said, to encrypt a file, select the option from the main window, load the file (via drag and drop), and enter a passphrase. It's advisable that you remember this password since you'll need it to decrypt the file later on. That's pretty much about it.
encrypt0r was created as an attempt to explore the basics of cryptography and allow its developer to discover what Electron can do. Despite this and the fact that it won't win any awards in terms of features and looks anytime soon, encrypt0r is still a good, honest, little app.
