Quickly spot all the differences between two files or two directories with the help of this tiny app. #File Difference #Diff Viewer #Folder Difference #Diff #Viewer #Difference
File comparison or "diff tools" are extremely valuable when trying to perform a clear comparison between two files, directories, or folders.
File comparison tools may not be something that most users use on a daily basis, but some comparison tasks can prove to be overbearing without their help.
jdDiff is one such file comparison tool, a free, open-source, and cross-platform app.
The whole point of jdDiff is to provide you with a quick and painless way of spotting the difference between two files or two directories. It's written in Python and it uses the PyQt6 as the GUI toolkit.
The app's GUI is split into three main sections (not counting the typical menu bar at the top): a status panel on the right (that displays the path for your files and folders, and their status), as well as two diff viewers, one in the middle, and one on the right side of the GUI.
Despite its simplicity, the app features a few useful features. One example is the locked scroll function which allows you to scroll both diff viewers (for both your files or folders) in tandem.
The app also boasts a Settings menu, but it's not what one might call advanced. From the Settings menu, you can change the GUI language (English, German, Swedish, and Dutch), the sorting type (Natural Ascending, Natural Descending, Alphabetically Ascending, and Alphabetically Descending).
You're also provided with the option of changing the color highlights for both the added or removed elements.
jdDiff may not be the most advanced app of this sort out there, but its simplicity is what makes it extremely easy to use and non-intimidating for newbies. The only real limitation of the app is that it only works with two files, or two folders, but for normal situations, it should be enough for most users.
