Dusk Player For Linux

Dusk Player is an ultra-minimalist, Electron-based music player. In short, it's an app built with web technologies that is capable of handling local music playback.

The app uses Howler to handle the music playback, Svelte for the UI, and music metadata is retrieved automatically from the audio files themselves.

It supports the following formats: MP3, Opus, OGG, WAV, M4A, and WebM. As mentioned before, it reads ID3 tags and displays the artist and album art (if they are embedded within the file).

Other noteworthy features include the ability to quickly switch tracks from a playlist, a nifty search engine, and three GUI themes: Dark, Light, and Disco.

Last but not least, the app offers full support for keyboard shortcuts to control the playback.

The app is available in AppImage and Deb formats, but it can also be built directly from the source. To do this, simply clone the repo, make it your working directory, and then run "npm install" on your computer's Terminal app.

Once the dependencies are downloaded, run "npm run app-dev" to test it, and "npm run build" to build it for the desired platform.

All that's left to do is start the app, click on the "Folders" tab on the top left corner, and select the folder where you want to play your audio files from.

As one can imagine, there's nothing really mind-blowing about Dusk Player. Nevertheless, it gets the job done. Yes, it's a bit bulky for a minimalist audio player (because it's Electron-based), but it looks nice, it works on multiple platforms, and it supports a surprising number of audio formats.
