A multimedia-oriented edition of the world's most popular free operating system, Ubuntu Linux. #Ubuntu Studio #Ubuntu Linux #Utopic Unicorn #Ubuntu #Studio #Utopic
Welcome to the Utopic Unicorn edition of the Ubuntu Linux operating system, an open source distribution of Linux geared towards graphic designers, musicians, video editors, as well as any other kind of artist who wants a free platform, with free software, for digital content creation.
The Ubuntu Studio operating system is available for download for free on Softpedia, as two Live DVD ISO images, one for old 32-bit (i386/x86) computers and another one for modern 64-bit (amd64/x86_64) machines.
The ISO images have approximately 2 GB in size and can be burned onto DVD discs using any CD/DVD burning software or written on USB flash drivers of 4GB or higher capacity (recommended) using UNetbootin or GNOME Disks applications. These are called bootable mediums and can be used to boot the operating system from the BIOS of a computer.
When booting the ISO image, the user will be prompted to choose a language and select a boot option. Default boot options include the ability to try Ubuntu Studio without installing it, start the installation directly, check the bootable medium for defects, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the local drive. Several advanced boot options are also available.
Ubuntu Studio 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) still uses Xfce as its default and only desktop environment. Xfce’s layout is modern, comprised of a panel located on the upper part of the screen, allowing users to navigate the main menu, interact with opened programs or access essential system functions, as well as a dock (application launcher) that is hidden by default on the bottom edge of the screen.
As expected from a multimedia-oriented operating system, Ubuntu Studio comes pre-loaded with a wide range of multimedia applications for audio production, graphic design, photography, video production and publishing.
Default applications include the Transmission torrent downloader, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Parole Media Player, Audacious music player, Ubuntu Software Center, as well as Synaptic Package Manager for installing more apps.
