Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) is here and it's set to receive maintenance updates and improvements for five years until April 2027.
Before anything else, please note that this version of Ubuntu Server defaults to a non-rolling LTS kernel version (namely 5.15).
The 22.04 LTS version of Ubuntu Server comes packed with a plethora of changes including new versions for Corosync, Pacemaker, Resource agents, Fence agents, containers runtime, Ruby, PHP,OpenLDAP, BIND, Apache, PostgreSQL, Django, MySQL, NFS server, Samba server.
Corosync is now updated to version 3.16 and includes support for changing crypto configurations during runtime, the default token timeout is changed from 1 second to 3 seconds, adds Cgroup v2 support.
Pacemaker is updated to version 2.1.2 and has the following new features: a new priority-fetching-delay, a new on-fail=demote and no-quorum-policy=demote recovery policies for promoted resources, support for OCF Resource Agent API 1.1, and many improvements in crm_mon and crm_resource.
Resource agents was updated to version 4.7.0, and brings forth a lot of changes since Ubuntu Focal 20.04 LTS. Both the Resource agents and Fence agents are now separated in two packages (resource-agents-base and resource-agent-extra, and Fence-agent-base and Fence-agent-extra respectively).
Regarding the Containers runtine we get containerd version 1.5.9, and runc version 1.1.0.
The default Ruby interpreter is also updated to version 3.0, PHP now defaults to version 8.1.2, OpenLDAP is updated to version 2.5.11, BIND to version 9.18.1 and offers support for DNS over TLS (DoT) and DNS over HTTPS (DoH), among other changes.
Apache has been updated to 2.4.52 (from 2.4.48), Django moves up to version 3.2.12, MySQL is updated to 8.0.28, and PostgreSQL is not upped to version 14.2 and features a plethora of improvements and new features.
More noteworthy changes can be seen in the virtualization section. Qemu is updated to version 6.2.0 and brings both minor and major improvements, libvirt is updated to 8.0.0, and virt-manager is the most recent update after almost 1.5 years (namely version 4.0.0).
Other changes include a new version of dpdk (21.11 LTS), openswitch version 2.17.0, support for swtpm as well as libtpms, cloud-init version 22.1, and some big improvements on the ubuntu-advantage-tools component (which is now at version 27.8).
