Ubuntu Kylin For Linux

Welcome to the Utopic Unicorn edition of Ubuntu Kylin, an open source distribution of Linux designed from the ground up to be used by members of the Chiense Linux community who love the world's most popular free operating system, Ubuntu.

First of all, we should mention that Ubuntu Kylin 14.10 is in development, which means that it is not suitable for production machines. It can be downloaded for testing purposes only as 64-bit and 32-bit Live DVD ISO images that can be burned onto DVD discs or written on USB flash drives of 2GB or higher capacity.

As expected, the entire distribution is translated into the Chinese language, including the boot loader, which lets users to try the operating system without installing it, boot from the first disk, run a memory diagnostic test, check the disc for defects (only if using a DVD media), as well as to directly install the distribution without testing it (not recommended).

The distribution uses a beautiful desktop environment powered by the controversial Unity user interface, which offers a modern desktop experience designed only for Chinese users. It is comprised of a top panel for interacting with opened applications and the system tray area, as well as a dock (application launcher) on the left side of the screen.

Default applications include the Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Rhythmbox music player, Gedit text editor, Chromium and Mozilla Firefox web browsers, LibreOffice office suite, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Transmission torrent downloader, and Cheese webcam viewer.

Summing up, Ubuntu Kylin aims to be the perfect Windows XP replacement for the entire Chinese Linux community, providing users with a beautiful desktop environment optimized for the Chinese language and packed with many open source applications.
