Piumalinux MATE For Linux

Piumalinux JYNX is an Italian open source distribution of Linux derived from the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu. It uses MATE, a clone of the GNOME Classic interface, as its default and only graphical desktop environment.

The JYNX edition of Piumalinux can be downloaded via Softpedia or directly from the project’s official homepage as a dual-arch and hybrid Live DVD ISO image.

A dual-arch ISO image can be used on computers supporting both 64-bit (x86_64) and 32-bit (x86) instruction set architectures. On the other hand, due to the fact that it’s a hybrid ISO image, the user can boot it from a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive.

Three different Live modes are available on the Live DVD boot menu, allowing you to start the live system with a default kernel, in safe graphics mode or in debug mode.

Despite the fact that the default language for the live system is Italian, the user can change it using the language selector implemented on the login screen. Use the piuma/piuma username and password combination to login.

As mentioned, the default graphical desktop environment is MATE, a clone of the GNOME Classic interface, comprised of a single panel located on the upper part of the screen and designed to allow the user to quickly cycle between the two virtual workspaces, as well as to easily interact with running programs. The main menu is unconventionally located on the right side of the panel.

Among the pre-installed applications, we can mention the Mozilla Firefox web browser, VLC Media Player, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, LibreOffice office suite, Transmission torrent downloader, Xfburn CD/DVD burning software, BleachBit system cleaner, as well as all the MATE-specific apps.
