Pearl Linux MATE For Linux

Pearl Linux MATE is an official edition of the Pearl Linux operating system built around the classic, old-school MATE desktop environment, a GNOME Classic derivative. The distribution is dubbed “the ultimate Mac OS alternative” and provides users with a graphical layout that is similar with the one of the Macintosh operating system.

The MATE edition of Pearl Linux is distributed for free on Softpedia, as a bootable Live DVD ISO image that contains software packages optimized only for computers supporting the 64-bit (x86_64/adm64) instruction set architectures. The user can write the bootable ISO image on either a DVD disc or USB flash drive of 2GB or higher capacity in order to boot it from the BIOS of his/her PC.

The Live DVD boot menu is quite standard for an Ubuntu derivative, allowing the user to start the live system with normal configuration or in safe graphics mode, start the installer directly, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the local disk drive.

Being designed from the ground up to be a Mac OS alternative, all Pearl Linux editions, including this one, come with a graphical user interface similar to the look and feel of an older Mac OS interface. A dock (application launcher) is provided on the bottom edge of the screen, and the menubar is located on the upper part of the screen, which includes the main menu.

Default applications include the Chromium and Mozilla Firefox web browser, Rhythmbox and Clementine music players, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Cheese webcam viewer, LibreOffice office suite, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, BibleTime Bible study software, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, GIMP image editor, Inkscape vector graphics editor, HexChat IRC client, FileZilla file transfer client, Audacity audio editor, HandBrake video converter, VLC Media Player, BleachBit system cleaner and Thunar file manager.
