Mythbuntu For Linux

Mythbuntu is an open source GNU/Linux operating system based on the Ubuntu Linux distribution and built around the well known MythTV software, providing users with a digital video recorder (DVR) project.

The project is not any official flavor of the Ubuntu Linux operating system, as it is built by members of the MythTV community who wanted to have an easy way to install the MythTV software on their computers.

It is available for download as two Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported architectures (64-bit and 32-bit). They can be easily deployed to USB flash drives, or burned on blank DVD discs using any CD/DVD burning software.

Among the boot options, we can mention the ability to try the distribution without installing anything on your computer, check the disc for defects (only if using a DVD media), run a memory diagnostic test, boot an existing operating system from the first disk drive, and install Mythbuntu on a local disk.

The distribution comes with the lightweight Xfce desktop environment, comprised of a single panel located on the upper part of the screen and designed to allow users to easily access the main menu, launch applications and interact with running programs and the system tray area.

It is very important to mention here that the boot medium can be used as a CD-based frontend if you already have a MythTV backend available on your network. To permanently install it on your disk drive, just double click the "Install Mythbuntu" icon provided on the desktop.

Default applications include the Thunar file manager, Bulk Rename file renaming utility, Chromium web browser, VLC Media Player, HDHomeRun Config GUI, Xfce Terminal terminal emulator, and Ubuntu Software Center.

In conclusion, Mythbuntu is the only project that will allow users to use the powerful and open source MythTV DVR (Digital Video Recording) software on a stable and reliable Ubuntu base. It only provides users with LTS (Long Term Support) releases and can be installed on a wide range of computers.
