CrunchPwn (also known as #Pwn Linux) is an open source, free, easy to install, and lightweight Linux operating system based on the Debian GNU/Linux distribution. It uses the default software repositories of the CrunchBang Linux distro.
It is a penetration testing distribution of Linux that provides users with a large toolset, as well as various Debian packages, which also work with any Debian Wheezy compliant Linux kernel-based operating system. It uses the minimalistic Openbox window manager.
The CrunchPwn operating system is distributed as a single, bootable Live DVD ISO image that includes software packages optimized only for the 64-bit (amd64) CPU architecture. The default username is user, and the default password is crunchpwn.
Users can write the ISO image, which has approximately 1.5 GB in size, on a blank or RW DVD discs using any CD/DVD burning software, or on a USB flash drive of 2GB or higher capacity, which can be later used to boot the operating system from the BIOS of a PC.
The CrunchPwn distributions offers a minimal boot menu that includes only two options, the ability to start the live system with normal configuration or in failsafe mode, as well as a minimal graphical session based on the Openbox window manager.
You will be dropped to a login screen, so don’t hesitate to use the aforementioned credentials to log into the live session. The desktop environment is extremely simple and clean, a true definition of minimalism, comprised of a slim taskbar (panel) located on the bottom edge of the screen, so you can easily interact with running program or access essential system functions.
As mentioned, the main emphasis of CrunchPwn is on penetration testing options, which means that it includes a wide range of penetrations testing tools that can be easily accessed from the #pwn entry in the main menu, which is accessible by right-clicking anywhere on the desktop.
The tools are well-organized in categories, which include stress testing, forensics, exploitation, recon, connectivity, tunneling and cracking. These are the main categories, but numerous subcategories are available for each one of them.
