A progressive, experimental browser that uses P2P at its fullest potential and allows you to host and share websites #P2P Web Browser #Host Website #Share Website #P2P #Host #Server
The Chromium platform has been at the center of some of the best browsers to have rolled out during the last decade.
We've seen minimalist browsers, privacy-focused browsers (Brave), highly configurable browsers (Vivaldi), browsers focused on making the gaming experience better (Opera GX), browsers specifically built for web development and testing (Polypane and Sizzy), and many many others, all based on Chromium.
Beaker Browser is also one of the most interesting browsers to use the Chromium platform. What makes Beaker Browser special? The answer is simple: it allows you to host, build, and share websites.
Traditionally, hosting a website is done by using servers. However, with the help of Beaker Browser you can host websites directly from our computer or laptop.
Beaker Browser uses something called "Hyperdrives." Don't be intimidated by the new terminology, as it basically means that you can host a website by simply adding your website's HTML, and then share the Hyperdrive link to any other Beaker Browser user.
Before we go a bit further into detail about some other cool features of Beaker, we have to also mention that the browser is also pushing the envelope when it comes to the usage of peer-to-peer technologies, or as the developers of Beaker call it "Peer to Peer Networking."
Beaker manages to find a new use-case for P2P, and the result is effortless website hosting. P2P is also great because it enables private sharing, so you can choose who is allowed to view your website (only the people with the link, or everyone else, including those that don't have the link).
How does Beaker Browser actually hosts and builds websites? For starters, with the help of its built-in editor. There are also a couple of very nifty, specialized tools for synchronizing folders with your websites, as well as an impressive collection of APIs (for reading and writing the files in your websites).
In short, what Beaker Browser does is take away from the complexity of building and sharing websites. Literally everyone can do this without having to rely on Git technologies, or the commandline, or any other job usually required for server administration. This can potentially make Beaker one of the best learning tools out there especially if you're into web development.
Last but not least, we have to mention Docs section on the official website. It's one of the best Documentation section of any app out there, and it features a lot of useful information.
Better yet, the information is organized in more than one section, but the three most important are Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced, which should make learning to use Beaker an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Beaker Browser is definitely one of the most exciting and most interesting web browsers out there. This is somewhat fascinating since it's not particularly good at doing what a web browser should do, allow you to browse the web as well as provide a plethora of tools to get the job done.
It's definitely not for everyone, nor is it for everyday use since, let's not forget, it's very very stripped down compared to even Chromium upon which it is based (you can forget all about themes, or support for extensions, and other commodities typical browsers offer).
It's also very experimental, even though it's getting better with each passing year, so expecting it to be around for the next 5-10 years is not at all exaggerated.
