Bitnami MyBB Stack For Linux

Bitnami MyBB Stack is a multiplatform and freely distributed software project that aims to make it easy to anyone to install the MyBB forum application, as well as all of its runtime dependencies, on personal computers. It includes ready-to-run versions of the PHP, Apache, MySQL, PageSpeed, phpMyAdmin, OpenSSL, and MyBB software.

MyBB is an open source, free, and platform-independent web-based application written in the PHP server-side programming language and designed from the ground up to act as a forum software or a discussion board app. It offers a professional look and borrows elements from similar products, such as phpBB.

To install the MyBB web-based application using the Bitnami MyBB Stack installer, which works on all mainstream computer operating systems, including GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Mac OS X, you will have to first download the binary package that corresponds to your computer’s CPU architecture (32-bit or 64-bit).

Save the .run package on your Desktop or Home folder, make it executable (right click on it, go to Preferences, access the Permissions tab, and check the “Allow executing file as program” option), double click the file and follow the instructions displayed on the screen. Basically, you will have to choose the components to install, select a path for the installation and create an admin user.

In addition to installing MyBB on personal computers, you can also run it in cloud thanks to Bitnami’s pre-built cloud images for the Google Cloud, Amazon EC2, and Windows Azure cloud hosting platforms. MyBB can also be virtualized on Oracle VirtualBox or VMware ESX/ESXi virtualization software by using Bitnami’s virtual appliance based on Ubuntu Linux.

Besides the Bitnami MyBB Stack product reviewed here, Bitnami offers a more simple way to install MyBB on personal computers, the Bitnami MyBB Module installer. It can be used on top of an existing Bitnami LAMP, MAMP or WAMP Stack. A MyBB Docker container will also be available on the project’s website.
