Cemu For Linux

If you are to look up lists of some of the best Nintendo emulators out there, then Cemu would most likely come up in all of them.

The project is closing down on its first decade of existence, and it's quite clear that it's one of those apps backed up by a serious and passionate team.

Cemu was designed to be a very good Wii U emulator. However, turns out that Cemu was a bit more (at least for a while). Right when the Nintendo Switch came out, there weren't any serios Nintendo Switch emulators  (Yuzu came out around 8 months after).

Naturally, a lot of people turned their eyes toward Cemu that could, quite surprisingly, run Mario Kart 8 and Zelda: Breath of the Wild (mostly because they dropped on Wii U). Those aren't the only Switch games that Cemu can run, but people knew that Cemu was a lot more capable than most people thought (after all, an emulator that allows you to run Mario Kart 8 in 8K and BOTW in 4K is definitely a success).

At first, Cemu was closed source and could only run on Windows. Fast forward to today, and Cemu is open-source (since version 2.0), and can also be run on macOS and even most Linux distros.

Just like most (Nintendo) emulators out there, Cemu is written in C/C++. It also receives monthly (sometimes weekly) updates to increase compatibility and overall usability levels.

The user experience seems to be a positive one across the board, at least as I was able to view at a glance on Reddit, Discord, and Matrix. Even better, there are tons of neat online resources such as a Setup guide (there's also a neat built setup assistant that I like), and FAQ section, a compatibility list.

There's a lot that can go wrong when using apps such as Cemu, but those who use them, usually know and acknowledge the "risks." There's also a lot of good that can come out by using Cemu, especially for those who are really into Wii U game modding and like to tinker with advanced settings such as anti-aliasing, resolution scales, shading option, and so forth.
