Weather For Linux

Designed by Giovanni Campagna, Weather is a sleek little app that is part of The GNOME Project initiative. As its name clearly states, it allows you to monitor the current weather conditions for your city, or any other location in the world.

Of course, it can also be used to get a clear idea regarding the weather forecast of up to 7 days in advance, with hourly details for the both the current and the next day.

To provide you with an accurate reading on the weather, it uses various internet services, but it seems that most of the weather data comes from the Nowegian Meteorological Institute.

Even though the app's GUI is not exactly impressive in any way, it gets the job done nicely. You can check out all the weather details by toggling between the app's two tabs: Hourly, and Daily.

The app's GUI is responsive, the graphics are crip and well designed, and the animations between menus are also very nice. In short, it looks and feels like an app built for GNOME (even though it works on other desktop environments as well).

Speaking of GNOME, one of the best aspects of this app is that it neatly integrates (only if you want it to) with the GNOME Shell. This makes it a lot easier for you to check out the current weather conditions just by clicking the menu bar (in the case of Ubuntu).

There's really not much one can dislike about Weather. Sure, it's not most comprehensive app of this sort for Linux, but as a simple desktop app for the average GNOME user, it's actually perfect.

It provides enough information to be relevant, it looks really nice, and it also features nice integration with the GNOME Shell.
