Nano Lights For Linux

If you're passionate about smart light devices, then there's a very good chance you've heard about Nanoleaf, Philips Hue's probably biggest competitor.

Nanoleaf products offer a lot of very interesting light devices including Nanoleaf 4D, Elements, Shapes, Canvas, Skylight, as well as a few more "traditional" lighting options such as smart light bulbs and light strips.

Of course, Nanoleaf lights are usually controlled via a smartphone application, but you can also control them using a nifty little GNOME Shell extension that goes by the name of Nano Lights.

Nano Lights is the brainchild of Václav Chlumský, the same developer that brought us Hue Lights, a GNOME Shell extension that allows you to control your Philips Hue devices directly from the top bar of your GNOME desktop.

According to the app's official GitHub repository, Nano Lights is a "Gnome shell extension for controlling Nanoleaf shapes and possibly others Nanoleaf devices on local network."

In short, the extension allows you to control your Nanoleaf smart light devices directly from the GNOME top bar. You can turn the devices on or off, adjust the brightness, change the color settings, as well as create and manage various types of Scenes.

Despite its small size and unassuming nature, Nano Lights is a polished product and looks great on modern versions of GNOME. Speaking of which, the extension works on most versions of GNOME, including GNOME 45 and above.

Nano Lights can be installed directly from the EGO website, or even faster and easier, with the help of the Extension Manager app.

I have to say that I don't own any Nanoleaf devices, hence, I can't test the extension's full functionality. However, what I can say, is that this extension should come in handy to any Nanoleaf user who wants to control their smart light devices from Linux.
