Color Picker For Linux

Color pickers are instrumental to most designers who employ a more hands-on approach toward their projects since, after all, colors are nothing more than a means for communication.

Finding a good color picker tool for Linux is pretty much just a matter of time and patience, since there are tons of very good tools of this sort out there. However, if you're a GNOME user, then why not make take the easiest route by installing a useful GNOME Shell extension?

The extension in question is generically named Color Picker, and it comes from the same developer who created Extension List, another very useful little tool.

There's really nothing spectacular about Color Picker, as it has all the typical functions of a tool of this sort. Simply click the extension's icon (from the top bar) and select any color from the screen. The color's code is displayed in the form of a system notification, and (by default) it's automatically copied to the clipboard as well.

The default format is HEX, but you can choose from various others including RGB, HSL, HSV, and CMYK. What's more, the extension also allows you to add various color codes to Favorites.

From the Extension's Settings section, you can various aspects regarding the tool's functionality. For instance, you can change the default format, the default auto-copy-to-clipboard feature, the notification style, as well as enable or disable the preview function.

While Color Picker doesn't impress in terms of features, it does work really well, and we have to say that it's a lot more convenient than most other apps of this sort.

The fact that it's so well integrated with GNOME is the main appeal for this extension, and what's really interesting about it is that it boasts a lot more customization options than it lets on at first.
