Remarkably user-friendly and gorgeous font manager for GNOME and other desktop environments. #Manage Fonts #Font Viewer #Font Browser #Font #Manager #Viewer
Managing fonts on Linux is not exactly rocket science, nonetheless, it could be simpler.
More experienced, long-time Linux users will most probably opt for the Terminal or other system tweak tools, while beginner users will definitely prefer something a bit more user-friendly.
Enter Font Manager (yes, we know, the name couldn't be more generic than this), a free, open-source, GTK+ app that allows you to manage fonts on your Linux system.
Even though it was designed for the GNOME desktop environment in mind (and it does look gorgeous on GNOME), it should work on other GTK desktop environments without any issues.
With its help, you can get details regarding your system's fonts and all the available variations. You can also filter and tweak fonts based on their spacing, width, height, and so forth. The key word here is simplicity, as Font Manager is by no means a professional-grade font management solution.
Here's what you can do with Font Manager: add or remove fonts, filter fonts based on family, vendor, spacing, height, and other aspects, tweak the scaling factor of fonts, add font sources and preview them before actually installing fonts, and adjust the anti-aliasing of the font (basically change the so-called "softness" or "sharpness" of the fonts).
Font Manager features Google Fonts integration with no extra pre-configuration, and it provides all the available details regarding the fonts (family, license, size, vendor, file type, spacing, width, style, etc.). Last but not least, the app also offers a series of useful keyboard shortcuts that allow you to get things done a lot quicker and easier.
Font Manager is available for a wide range of Linux distributions, however, if you're running an Ubuntu-based distribution, one of the easiest way to install the app is via its official PPA. The commands are: "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:font-manager/staging," "sudo apt update," and "sudo apt install font-manager."
There's also the Flatpak option, and Arch Linux users can use the AUR PPA.
Font Manager is a no-frills font manager for Linux that looks and feels great. It may not the best most advanced app of this sort out there, but it gets the job done flawlessly.
