User-friendly, Electron-based file manager that provides split-view, tab support, and full keyboard controls. #File Manager #System Explorer #View File #Explorer #Manager #File
Not all users are particularly keen on file organization since, let's face it, it's such a trivial and potentially boring aspect of using a computer.
Nonetheless, file managers are the bread-and-butter of our OSes, and whether we like them or not, we depend on them to browse through files, manage storage space, move things from one place to another, and so forth.
Thankfully, there are numerous options out there if you ever want to change the file manager of your OS. React-Explorer is one such app, a free, open-source, and cross-platform file manager. It's one of the better looking apps of this sort, and it brings forth a series of neat tricks and features to help you become more productive with your files.
React-Explorer is written in TypeScript, React, and Blueprint, and is packaged using Electron. If you're against Electron apps, at least know that React-Explorer is super-fast and the GUI is as snappy as that of most native apps.
Besides its above average looks, React-Explorer also provides a couple of interesting features.
These include a split-view window, tab support, the ability to open a terminal from any folder, two GUI themes (dark and light themes that will automatically activate when your system does so), and full keyboard controls.
Other neat little tricks include the ability to create nested folders (create serveral folders at once by separating them with "/"), quick access to parent folders (right-click on the tab's icon to access the parent folder of the current folder), and WSL support (automatically detects and shows the list of installed Linux distributions).
Despite React-Explorer's age as a project, it proves itself to be a very capable file manager that can be used by pretty much anyone, on pretty much any desktop OS.
Yes, some users might have a thing or two to say about the fact that it's Electron-based, and we won't lie, it's not the most lightweight app of this sort. However, at least it looks better than most apps of this type, it provides some extra features (when compared to the most default file managers), and it is surprisingly fast with a snappy GUI.
